Shower
Bathroom remodeling requires significant expertise in many areas, but in none of them as much as in the tiled shower.Shower falure Anyone attempting to put one together without adequate education and training is positively bound to fail, without exaggeration. Tiled shower pan is a sandwich of seven (that's 7!) layers, each one of them essential. Plywood, vapor barrier, lath reinforcement, sub-slope, membrane, mortar bed, tile – from the bottom up. Every year we are assigned to a grim task of taking apart and rebuilding a handful of showers that were built only a few short years prior. Direct impact of hot water several times a day creates an unforgiving environment and corners, cut during construction, will make themselves known in a way of mold and mildew, persistent leaks, grout failures, cracking tile, rot, decay and more mold. As in any project Trades of the Triangle are involved in, we dot every “i” and cross every “t” in our showers, which allows us to proudly declare a nice round zero shower pan failures out of dozens and dozens built over the years!! (Including one 6 feet by 10 feet three-men shower at the fraternity house in Chapel Hill – going strong in the harshest of environments known to humankind)!
