INTERIOR TRIM, CUSTOM SHELVING AND BOOKCASES
shelving

Interior finish, trim and shelving work is one aspect of carpentry that requires most precision and skill. Not everyone is cut out for it, but Trades of the Triangle carpenters certainly are. You have a precise idea of what kind of look or functionality you want; we know exactly how to make it happen. Two things to inquire about as you decide on the right person to do your interior trim, shelving or built-in bookcases in Hillsborough, Durham or Chapel Hill are material and finish. Joinery is another important one, but if the answers to first two questions don't convince you, the third one is moot. The material choices for any interior work are limited to ones that can provide smooth and cleanable surface. For that reason, MDF would work, if the shelves are to be painted; shelving if plywood is used, it must be highest cabinet-grade quality, which can be stained as well as painted. For solid wood elements, such as face frames, yellow pine may beBookcase acceptable, but poplar would be better for paint; oak or maple for staining. Any lower grades of plywood, such as BC, or spruce boards will yield a sub-standard result.

As far as finish is concerned, top choice for painted shelves is spray painting, when it is feasible to assemble most elements at the shop. When the shelves have to be painted on site, demand enamel, not regular acrylic paint. Basic gloss acrylic paint is not meant for any kind of handling and will look scratched and used very quickly.

Elegant built-in bookcases can add character and charm to any home, while well organized storage eliminates clutter and creates extra space without costly expansion. We build all types of paint- or stain-grade custom shelving, built-in bookcases and fully-equipped closets that conform to your needs. We also perform full scope of interior trim and carpentry, including complex built-up trim, such as crown molding, wainscoting and paneling.
